CommodityScope Steel Assessment Methodology

CS-METH-STEEL · Version 1.0 · Document issued 13 October 2026

Steel 1.0 publishes the validated market level for one defined steel or steelmaking-raw-material series. A quoted range is kept. A repeated weekly or monthly level does not open a new assessment date.

1. Scope

This document formalizes Steel methodology version 1.0. It applies to physical steel, iron ore, coking coal, ferrous scrap, metallics and ferroalloy series published under this family. Parent document: CommodityScope Assessment & Publication Framework (/methodology/core).

2. Assessment midpoint

The assessment midpoint is the validated market level for the series basis and published unit. Where the market is quoted as a low and a high, the midpoint is the centre of that quoted range and the published range is the quoted span. Where the market is quoted as a single level, the published range is that level.

A daily series keeps each assessment date, including a date whose level is unchanged. A weekly or monthly series does not open a new assessment date when the level is repeated.

3. Publication

Each published value keeps its assessment date. A later calculation does not rewrite an already published date. Series in different units are not combined.
