What This CIF NWE Price Represents

Daily CIF Northwest Europe assessment of 3.5% sulphur fuel oil cargoes in USD/mt.

Compare With

Each comparison states why the series are related and whether the latest values can be subtracted directly (same unit, currency and assessment date). Where they cannot, the values are shown side by side without a difference.

Different delivery terms (CIF vs FOB); the gap may reflect freight, insurance, location basis, parcel and timing differences and is not a trading margin.

Specification · stated in the assessment basis

  • Maximum 3.5% sulphur, from the series name.

Basis: CIF NWE

  • CIF (cost, insurance and freight): the price includes ocean freight and insurance to the named destination area. The difference to an FOB value may reflect freight, insurance, location and basis, parcel size, timing and other market differences; it is not a trading margin and not a pure freight rate.
  • Northwest Europe (NWE) covers the Channel and North Sea coast from Le Havre to Hamburg; cargo values here are seagoing parcels, not barges.

Unit: USD/mt

  • USD/bbl values (Singapore, Arab Gulf, Fujairah) and USD/mt values (Europe, Japan naphtha) cannot be compared without a product-specific density conversion; the site does not convert them.
  • CommodityScope publishes a midpoint and an assessment range around that midpoint; the range is an uncertainty interval, not a bid/offer spread. Charts and monthly statistics use the midpoint only.
How to use this series, and what it is not for

How to use this series

  • Follow HSFO values used by scrubber-fitted vessels and power/refinery feedstock buyers; the East–West spread compares Singapore with Rotterdam.

What it is not suitable for

  • Compliant bunker pricing for non-scrubber ships (that is the 0.5% series).
