What This FOB ARA Price Represents

Daily FOB ARA naphtha barge assessment in USD/mt — inland-waterway parcels in the Amsterdam–Rotterdam–Antwerp area.

Compare With

Each comparison states why the series are related and whether the latest values can be subtracted directly (same unit, currency and assessment date). Where they cannot, the values are shown side by side without a difference.

SeriesWhy compareLatestDifference (this − other)
Naphtha — Northwest Europe
CIF NWE / ARA basis · USD/mt · daily
Same naphtha in the same region on CIF NWE cargo instead of FOB ARA barge terms; the gap contains freight/insurance or barge-vs-cargo logistics, not quality.
  • Different delivery terms (FOB vs CIF); the gap may reflect freight, insurance, location basis, parcel and timing differences and is not a trading margin.

CommodityScope Assessment Basis

This is the CommodityScope series definition for the published midpoint and assessment range. Characteristics that are not part of this basis are not inferred.

Product
Naphtha
Product quality
Open-specification naphtha as typically offered for petrochemical or gasoline-blendstock use. CommodityScope does not assess a named paraffin, density or sulphur specification.
Location basis
FOB ARA
Parcel basis
Typical ARA barge parcel as transacted in the inland-waterway market. CommodityScope does not fix a standard barge tonnage.
Delivery / loading period
Not fixed in the published series basis.
Assessment window
CommodityScope daily assessment dated as of the published assessment date.
Currency / unit
USD/mt
Normalization
Inputs used for the midpoint and the assessment range are considered only after they can be expressed on this series basis and unit. Cross-unit values are not converted on the public site and are not mixed into this series.

Terms not specified

  • The series basis names this series as “Naphtha” and does not specify a fuller specification; none is assumed here.

Specification · series name and basis only

The series basis does not specify a product specification beyond its name and basis; none is assumed.

Basis: FOB ARA

  • FOB (free on board): the price covers the product loaded on the vessel at the named origin; sea freight and insurance to the destination are excluded, so FOB values from different loading areas are not delivered-cost equivalents.
  • Barge-based ARA/AR/FARAG values refer to inland-waterway barge parcels in the Amsterdam–Rotterdam–Antwerp area (FARAG adds Flushing and Ghent); they are smaller lots than seagoing cargoes and are not the same market as CIF NWE cargoes.
  • ARA is the Amsterdam–Rotterdam–Antwerp port and refining complex on the North Sea, linked by the Rhine to inland Europe; barge values here are inland-waterway parcels.

Unit: USD/mt

  • USD/bbl values (Singapore, Arab Gulf, Fujairah) and USD/mt values (Europe, Japan naphtha) cannot be compared without a product-specific density conversion; the site does not convert them.
  • CommodityScope publishes a midpoint and an assessment range around that midpoint; the range is an uncertainty interval, not a bid/offer spread. Charts and monthly statistics use the midpoint only.
How to use this series, and what it is not for

How to use this series

  • Follow cracker-feedstock costs by region; compare with gasoline in the same basis to read blending economics.

What it is not suitable for

  • Converting between USD/bbl and USD/mt without a density assumption.
